Dorset Book club - November
This month’s book: The Housemaid by Freida McFadde
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried
You’re invited. Yes, you. Whether you’re a voracious reader, a casual skimmer, or someone who just enjoys books through the effortless means of audio, this is for you.
Our book club meets at the beginning of each month. One book a month.

“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own…
Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.
I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.
I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.
But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.
They don’t know what I’m capable of… -
Welcome – A gentle ease-in, because we understand socialising can sometimes feel like a high-stakes interview. Grab a drink, settle in, and meet your fellow book lovers. No pressure, no pop quizzes, just good conversation.
Book Review – A brief and lively (or possibly chaotic) discussion about this month’s book. Read the whole thing? Fabulous. Read half and then Googled the ending? Also valid. Barely made it past page 10? No one’s judging, your insight is still welcome, and honestly, we've all been there.
-
If you’re a woman in your 20s or 30s and fancy an evening of book chat, cultural musings, and potentially forming lifelong friendships over a shared love of fictional characters—this is your kind of thing.

Friendsgiving Feast
Our second Supper Club, but with a twist: this time the table is bigger and the mood is celebratory. Friendsgiving is our chance to gather everyone together. Familiar faces, new connections, and the friendships sparked over the past year for one long, joyful dinner.

This event series is all about slowing down, pulling up a chair, and discovering just how much better life tastes when shared with new people.
Here’s the idea: we book some of the South Coast’s most brilliant restaurants – the places you’ve had on your list or the tucked-away gems you didn’t know you needed, and you’re invited to the table. Who you’ll be sitting next to? That’s the surprise. All you know is that she’ll be a woman, like you, in her 30s or 40s, ready for a proper evening out.
It’s not networking, it’s not speed dating, and it’s definitely not small talk. It’s a space for women who want to eat well, drink better, and swap stories that last longer than the main course.
-
There’s no ticket link or endless scrolling for reservations. You apply, pick your preferred spot: Dorset or Hampshire, and when a table opens up, we’ll be in touch. Simple, thoughtful, and just exclusive enough to feel like you’re part of something special.
-
This one has no WhatsApp group, sign up and meet new people at the table
Non-refundable booking fee
More details will be sent via email. (Our emails are not automatic, but make sure to check your junk mail, in case it’s chilling in there.)

This month’s book: So Thrilled For You by Holly Bourne
Is being a mother the most defining role a woman can have?
Nicki, Lauren, Charlotte and Steffi have been friends since university. Now in their thirties, life is pulling them in different directions, and motherhood is at the forefront of their minds. But when Charlotte organises a baby shower for Nicki on a swelteringly hot summer's day, it changes their friendship group forever.
In the aftermath, each woman has a different view on what happened that day - but the truth will shock everyone. Even you. -

The Secret of the Blue Lake by Marcy Blesy
At what point do you make a decision so radical that it hurts those you love but saves yourself, if only for a moment in time?
The only true certainty in life is dying, but there’s a whole lot of life to live from beginning to end if you’re lucky.
When Chicago news reporter Meg Popkin’s dad makes a surprise move to a tiny town called Blue Lake, Michigan, in the middle of nowhere and away from his family after losing his wife to cancer, she wonders if there is more to the move than just a change of scenery.
With the help of a new, self-confident reporter at the station, Brian Welter, she tries to figure out what the secret attraction to Blue Lake is for its many new residents and along the way discovers that maybe she’s been missing out on some of the joys of living herself.

This month’s book: So you’ve been publicly shamed.
By Jon Ronson
You’re invited. Yes, you. Whether you’re a voracious reader, a casual skimmer, or someone who just enjoys books through the effortless means of audio -this is for you. This is a rolling series taking place on the last Monday of each month. One book a month.
-
So you’ve been publicly shamed, by Jon Ronson
For the past three years, Jon Ronson has travelled the world meeting recipients of high-profile public shamings. The shamed are people like us - people who, say, made a joke on social media that came out badly, or made a mistake at work. Once their transgression is revealed, collective outrage circles with the force of a hurricane and the next thing they know they're being torn apart by an angry mob, jeered at, demonized, sometimes even fired from their job. A great renaissance of public shaming is sweeping our land. Justice has been democratized. The silent majority are getting a voice. But what are we doing with our voice? We are mercilessly finding people's faults. We are defining the boundaries of normality by ruining the lives of those outside it. We are using shame as a form of social control. Simultaneously powerful and hilarious in the way only Jon Ronson can be, So You've Been Publicly Shamed is a deeply honest book about modern life, full of eye-opening truths about the escalating war on human flaws - and the very scary part we all play in it.

This month’s book: The Salt Path by Raynor Winn
An astonishing narrative of two people dragging themselves from the depths of despair along some of the most dramatic landscapes in the country, looking for a solution to their problems and ultimately finding themselves. ― Independent

The Salt Path by Raynor Winn
Just days after Raynor learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years is terminally ill, the couple lose their home and their livelihood. With nothing left and little time, they make the brave and impulsive decision to walk the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset, via Devon and Cornwall.
They have almost no money for food or shelter and must carry only the essentials for survival on their backs as they live wild in the ancient, weathered landscape of cliffs, sea and sky. Yet through every step, every encounter, and every test along the way, their walk becomes a remarkable journey.
The Salt Path is an unflinchingly honest, inspiring and life-affirming true story of coming to terms with grief and the healing power of the natural world. Ultimately, it is a portrayal of home, and how it can be lost, rebuilt, and rediscovered in the most unexpected ways -
